Privacy Policy
Platonic is a friendship-first social app for adults. This policy explains how Platonic collects, uses, protects, and deletes information when you use the website, Android or iOS app, or related services.
Information We Collect
We collect information you provide, including account details, profile content, posts, messages, event details, reports, and support requests.
We may collect device and app information needed for login, security, notifications, troubleshooting, and abuse prevention.
For phone verification where available, we process your phone number, verification request, submitted code, and verification results to confirm control of that number. WhatsApp sign-in and linking are not available in this release. They are deferred for a future release, where they would be optional. We do not request access to your WhatsApp contacts or conversations.
If you grant location permission, we use approximate or precise foreground location to support nearby discovery, community radius features, and local event recommendations.
How We Use Information
We use information to operate the service, show relevant nearby content, deliver messages and notifications, moderate user-generated content, investigate reports, prevent abuse, and provide support.
We record account creation and daily signed-in activity to measure signups, active use, and geographic and language trends. These records are linked to your account and may include your account identifier, email or phone number where present, sign-in provider, activity date, area, region, language, and platform.
What Other Users See
Other users may see profile details, display name, approximate area, posts, event listings, replies, and messages that you choose to send or publish.
Service Providers
Google Cloud and Firebase provide hosting, database storage, media storage, authentication, and push notifications. These services process delivery and security information under their applicable terms and privacy policies. Information may be processed in countries other than where you live.
If you choose text-message multi-factor authentication (SMS MFA), your phone number is sent to Google for verification. Google stores and uses authentication phone numbers to prevent spam and abuse across Google services, including Firebase. SMS MFA is optional when creating an account; once enrolled, it is used to protect sign-in.
Resend delivers transactional emails, including email-verification and password-reset messages. It receives the recipient email address, subject, message content and action link, and processes delivery and security metadata. Resend processes email content to provide delivery on our behalf and processes certain account and usage data for its own operational, security and legal purposes under its privacy policy and data processing addendum.
See Google's privacy policy for information about its processing. If WhatsApp authentication is introduced in a future release, Twilio Verify would process phone numbers and verification requests, and Meta/WhatsApp would deliver verification messages under Twilio's privacy notice and WhatsApp's privacy policy. Deferring this feature does not itself delete any previously collected verification or account data; the retention and deletion terms below still apply.
Authentication Data and Retention
We keep the verified phone association while it is needed to access and secure your account. Verification codes are sent to the verification provider for validation and are not stored in your profile. We also keep limited security and rate-limit records to prevent abuse. Providers maintain their own delivery and security records under their retention policies. Account deletion requests include removal of the account's phone association, subject to the limited retention reasons below.
Our current cloud configuration retains ordinary request and application logs for 30 days and required cloud audit logs for 400 days. Deleted media may remain recoverable through storage soft delete for 7 days. These retention periods are separate from processing an account deletion request. Service providers may retain other delivery and security records under their own policies.
Security
Platonic uses HTTPS in transit, authentication controls, and access restrictions. Platonic messages are not end-to-end encrypted; authorized service operations and moderation can process message content. No online service can guarantee perfect security.
Your Choices
You can edit profile settings, manage notifications, hide posts, block or mute users, report content, and request account deletion.
Account Deletion
You can request account and associated data deletion at the account deletion page. Some records may be retained when required for security, legal compliance, fraud prevention, or moderation audit purposes.
Children
Platonic is intended for adults. Do not use Platonic if you are under 18.
